Edu Zurita Caparrós (January 25, 1993) is a young player, 22 years old, of Sant Boi de Llobregat who begins a new sports adventure in Ohio, United States, thanks to WOSPAC BecasEEUU.
Zurita will head to Rio Grande University on Monday to meet his future residence -in the same campus of the university – and to prepare to start training with the university team next August 6th. This will also be days of reunions, as he will play again with his former teammates at UE Cornellà, Pau Delgado and Jorge Guinovart.
The young of Sant Boi is very happy for this opportunity, but also a little nervous. He has confessed that “I still do not have any idea about how my experience will be there, but Pau and Jorge have made some comments. I just hope I can enjoy every moment of my stay there and learn a lot. I’ll keep you posted.”
WOSPAC BecasEEUU program
WOSPAC BecasEEUU is a specialized service to obtain athletic scholarships for athletes to have the opportunity to study at major universities in the United States while continuing to develop personally and athletically.
Edu Zurita had long planned to travel to the United States and “last year and I had to have gone but there were some drawbacks and so I could not travel. But WOSPAC helped me at all the time to fix the problems and get everything ready to go this year to Ohio, therefore I am very grateful.”
“WOSPAC has not only helped me to solve the problems, but they have put me in touch with Jose Luis Rodriguez. Thanks to them I can go to study Business at Rio Grande” said Zurita.
Joy, excitement, nerves and desire to play soccer while also learning a new country, which from next Tuesday on will be his new home. “I think what I’ll miss most is the family and also the food, maybe not the first day, but later on I will miss the ham or the spanish omelette.”
From Cornella to the US University League
Zurita joined the UE Cornellà at the age of 13, after some years in the Marianao Poblet of Sant Boi, to join the Cadet B (NL) in its first year of cadet. In its second year ofcadet, Edu was part of the UEC Cadet playing in Division Honor.
A year later, in his jump to the youth, he had the opportunity to play for two seasons in the youth National and in his final year of junior to play with the Junior A team that is always among the top 3 teams in the league after FC Barcelona and RCD Espanyol.
This defensive middle field center, did not lack of offers after finishing his time as a youth in the green team. Finally it was the Gava, 3rd division, who bound him. Zurita had his first contact with the soccer of the US during a friendly match with the Gava team “during a friendly match Gava played against an American university and I could see what kind of soccer they play. Very disciplined and very physical, they like to play on the wing and run a lot. It has become a more competitive football.”
After playing with Gava, Zurita has played in Santboià 1st Catalana until January 2015, and has finished the season in Marianao Poblet 2nd Catalana: “My idea was to play and play games without getting hurt to be at 100% for my trip to the United States. That was my priority and now finally the time has come.”
From WOSPAC we wish you a safe journey and we hope you use every minute to continue enjoying soccer. Good luck champ!
