If we talk about football in the city of Berlin, everybody thinks about the great team of the city Hertha and even their Stadium, the Olympistadion where FC Barcelona, won the Champions League last season. But every big city, has more humble neighborhood teams, and in Berlin there is the case of the Union Berlin, team that plays in the 2.Bundesliga (German Second Division), that in 2009 wrote a beautiful and romantic page of its centenary history.
Union Berlin, is a team of the periphery of Berlin, which has never played in the Bundesliga. Their crowd is characterized for being a working fans mostly, we speak of carpenters, electricians and plumbers who populate their grades every two weeks, in their local matches. And it is here, where the beautiful history of this team begin.
At the end of the season 2007 / 2008, the stadium of the Union, presented an increasingly degraded appearance and needed an urgent renovation. The problem was that the club did not have sufficient resources to face the remodeling and renovation of his stadium. There was when the initiative of its most fervent fans emerged and they all got to work. So, close to 3,000 volunteers, those carpenters, electricians, plumbers… that we have talked before, members all of the club, coordinated by the club, conditioned the stands and put the elements to renovate the stadium, leaving only the more complicated tasks such as placement the roofs of the stands, to external companies.
In the summer of 2009, the stadium was renewed premiering against the city rival, Hertha and all thanks to a group of fans of the club who wrote one of the most wonderful and incredible football history pages.
